PCSO Freedom Cup at SLLP

Running free as wind – that’s the sensation we mere racegoers can only experience vicariously when we watch racehorses and jockeys racing around the track.

Speed freaks like us can get more of the exhilarating racing action we crave this weekend at San Lazaro Leisure and Business Park, with the staging of salvo after salvo of hot race lineups.

Saturday will feature the 13th Gintong Lahi Awards, the horseracing and Thoroughbred breeding industry’s only recognition program. Established by the Philippine Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Organization, this year’s episode is co-sponsored by the Manila Jockey Club, owner and operator of SLBP.

The awarding ceremony, to be hosted by 2008 Bb. Pilipinas – International Patricia Fernandez, offers trophies for the top horses, owners, breeders, jockeys, and trainers in fifteen categories.

It will be followed by the Gintong Lahi Racing Festival where the country’s top thoroughbreds and jockeys will vie for honors in the 13th Gintong Lahi Stakes Race. Both events will be aired live on the San Lazaro Broadcasting Network on Sky Cable’s channel 113 and Destiny Cable’s channel 83.

Says MJC chairman lawyer Alfonso R. Reyno, Jr., “The Manila Jockey Club is proud to host the 13th Gintong Lahi Awards. This prestigious event not only honors the best performers in Philippine horse racing, it also motivates industry stakeholders to strive harder to elevate horse racing to greater heights. We hope to be able to host this event annually.”

Philtobo, founded in the late ‘90s by a group of horseowners, among them then-Speaker of the House of Representatives Ramon V. Mitra Jr., also stages the Philtobo Championship racing festival every December.

Sunday at SLBP will showcase the much-awaited Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Freedom Cup. It will be run over 1,500 meters and will see the testing of the following 3YO: lone filly RMR Equine’s Yellow Citizen, to be ridden by jockey Ernesto G Reyes carrying 52 kgs; and colts Ofelia Ibaviosa’s Whistler with Mark A Alvarez, Ralph Javier’s Arvin Dugo with Patricio R Dilema, Gaudencio Pamaos’ Narra with John Alvin Guce, Emmanuel King’s Hi Money with Jonathan B Hernandez, and Michael Dragon Javier’s Magna Carta with Jesse B Guce, the Philippine Sportswriter’s Association 2010 Jockey of the Year. All the colts will carry 54 kgs.

Hefty prizes from first to fourth place and trophies for the winners are the rewards, along with the corresponding fame and glory. The winning breeder will receive P30,000 as an incentive to continue producing track champions.

Expected to grace the occasion are PCSO chairperson Margarita Juico, general manager lawyer Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II, and directors lawyers Aleta Tolentino, Mabel Mamba, Francisco Joaquin, and Betty Nantes.

To enjoy the races and excellent dining at the Turf Club, visit SLBP in Carmona, Cavite, accessible via the Carmona exit on the South Luzon Expressway. ***
