Juvenile sensation Go Army, winner of the Philippine Racing Commission 2YO Stakes first leg, will not be competing in the second leg of the series, set today at Santa Ana Park.
This was confirmed this morning by Esguerra stable manager Rene Barretto, who said that the colt’s trainer had obtained a veterinarian’s certificate required to officially scratch the horse.
Go Army is said to be suffering from “sobrecana” (sore shin) a common condition that often afflicts young horses. Rest and recovery is usually all that is needed to return the horse to good form, but it can take several months.
The field for the 900-meter 2YO Stakes second leg has been pared down to French Vanilla, Go Army’s stablemate at the Esguerra racing stable, Key Boy, Ask Leikey, Kudos, and So Real.
With Go Army out of the picture, this could be Key Boy’s chance to shine. So Real and Ask Leikey could do well, while newcomer French Vanilla and Kudos may surprise.
