Former Philracom Commissioner Passes

Former horseowner and Philippine Racing Commission director Fortunato “Toti” Jayme passed away at 2 o’clock this morning.

He had suffered an attack last Monday and was rushed to the hospital. Efforts to prolong his life failed and he succumbed to an aneurysm and other complications.

Toti was an active member of the horseracing industry, especially in the ’90s. Apart from his interest in thoroughbreds and work for the Philracom, he also produced a horseracing show, “Karera 2000″, which aired over PTV, the government television network, for several seasons in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Tiny, and their children Melissa, Joel, and Jonjon. His remains lie in state at the Santa Maria della Strada church outside La Vista, Quezon City.

My deepest condolence to his family, especially to Tiny and her kids. Toti was a dear friend of mine since college and we worked together at RFM. Memories of our escapades and ACIL days just came flooding in. I was shocked to see his name on Ateneo’s In Memoriam page and his death preceded my brother’s by a month. God Bless His Soul!
