In their first regular race, a field of five high-caliber fillies bravely showed their mettle in one of the premier championship races for greenhorn runners – the Open Maiden Race sponsored by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

Three-year-olds Rose Tattoo, Minsk City, Virgin Empress, Flavorofthemonth, and All That Jazz battled over 1400 meters last April 29 at San Lazaro Leisure Park (SLLP) in front of nearly a thousand fans.

Sent off as the favorite was All That Jazz, who conquered the trial race held last April 17 also at SLLP in come-from-behind fashion. Rose Tattoo was the second favorite.

All That Jazz (guided by Kelvin Abobo) had a sluggish start but repeated her winning ways by firing up in the final stages of the race, coming from dead last to clinch the title and bag the first prize of P300,000, clocking 1:31.5.

Flavorofthemonth, the third pick, checked in second to take home P100,000. Virgin Empress settled for third place and P50,000. ***
