He’s The Man trumped six other fellow juveniles including stablemate Indelible Ink to win the Philracom 2-YO Stakes 2nd leg at Santa Ana Park last June 17.
Sent off as the favorite in the betting, the bay colt by prolific stallion El Ragaas out of Hey Hi negotiated the 900-meter run with ease. Jockey Jesse B. Guce guided him smartly out of the gate and let his powerful mount take the lead. By the 3/8 mark He’s The Man was four lengths ahead of the pack, stretching his advantage in the final stages of the race to win by eight. His time was 0.54 seconds, with quarters of 07-21’-25’.
He bagged the first prize of P720,000 for owner Hermie Esguerra. Trophies for the owner, jockey, and trainer Lito Tornandizo were also handed out. Black Mamba settled for second place with P270,000. Indelible Ink was third and claimed P150,000, while fourth placer Security Queen received P60,000.
He’s The Man’s record now stands at three wins out of four starts. His only loss was in a 900-meter sprint some weeks ago, when he came in third in the race won by Black Mamba.
The 1st leg of the 2YO Stakes series was won in come-from-behind style by Tabako, also owned by Mr. Esguerra. Mr. Esguerra also holds the distinction of being the breeder of Tabako, He’s The Man, Indelible Ink, and Black Mamba, the latter bought from him by Pierre Niles.
