For the third year in a row, Tumbok, one of the top ten tabloids nationwide, showcases the Tumbok Cup, a charity race that promises explosive racing action for fans and also provides assistance to a worthy cause.
The Manila Jockey Club (MJC) is Tumbok’s partner this year, with the event to be held at the MJC’s San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite on Sunday, 28 October.
The first Tumbok Cup was won by Manila Magic on October 9, 2005, under the guidance of jockey Edwin Simbulan, while rider Dominador H. Borbe Jr. steered Badge of Honor to victory in the second edition held May 21, 2006.
Expected to attend the 3rd Tumbok Cup on Sunday are Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) and Tumbok officials and editorial staff, among them PDI President Ms. Sandy Prieto and her husband Mr. Philip Romualdez (Philippine Chamber of Mines president), Mr. and Mrs. Alex Prieto, and other members of the Prieto family, which was once involved in horseracing.
Guests from co-sponsor Philweb (an online gaming website) include Mr. Dennis Valdes and Mr. Apa Ongpin (whose father, the former finance secretary Jaime V. Ongpin, is the honoree of one of the annual Triple Crown legs).
Sponsored by the Philippine Racing Commission, the proceeds from the race will be awarded to the Gifts and Graces Fair Trade Foundation. ***
