Copper Dew sets new mile record!
Promising three-year-old filly Copper Dew captured the Philracom Year-End Invitational last December 1 at Santa Ana Park, shattering the mile record despite carrying a back-breaking handicap weight of 56 kilos.
Fresh from a win with rider Jesse B. Guce in the Nov. 4 Santa Ana Park Championship Series (5th leg), Copper Dew, obviously in top condition, bested eight other runners by clocking 1:37.6, with quarters of 24’-23’-24’-25. This beats former record holder Wild Orchid’s 1:37.8, posted at last August 19’s 1st leg Philracom Imported-Local Challenge at San Lazaro Leisure Park.
Ably guided in this race by Rigan M. Mamucod, Copper Dew was sent off as the favorite in the sales. Her winning ways earned her the top prize of P600,000 for first place. American import Irene’s Fantasy bagged second place, while Regal Boom and No Fear settled for third and fourth respectively.
Copper Dew is owned by Jose Mari Franco and trained by Ruben Clor. ***
