Racing fans at http://www.phf.com.ph and elsewhere are wondering why there are only 24 races set for this weekend (12-13 Jan 2008) or 12 races per day at San Lazaro Leisure Park (SLLP), instead of the usual 26 per weekend or 13 per day?
Many kareristas pointed out that the “racing holiday” was over. Was the reduced number of races caused by the fact that three-year-old racing is still not being implemented while the controversial handicapping scheme for that age group is still being discussed?
Not so, according to a Manila Jockey Club steward. He says that the Philracom granted the Philippine Racing Club three Mondays of racing to make up for the weekend races at Santa Ana Park that did not materialize because of the racing holiday.
At eight races per Monday, that’s a total of 24 races. In order to be fair and maintain a schedule with the same number of races for the two racing clubs, only 24 races were allowed for this weekend at SLLP.
