What a sad state for the local horse breeding industry in the Philippines especially if we were to follow by heart the slogan “TANGKILIKIN ANG SARILING ATIN”. The Local racehorse breeders will be reduced to being a bystander watching their efforts lost at the mercy of these foriegn racehorses owners. To avoid these kinds of scenarios, the Bureau of Customs must run after these importers of Racehorses. Why run only against those importers of luxury cars? Impose the customs duties and taxes in the same way foreign luxury cars are being taxed to discourage importation. You see the difference in this case, we have no local manufacturers of cars here in the Philippines except the sariling atin like SARAO JEEPNEY, or the FRANCISCO MOTORS. These local manufacturers could afford to target only the locals within the middle class. Dont tell me, “TANGKILIKIN ANG SARILING ATIN” would prosper in the elite class. Where can you find one elite, even the President of the Republic of the Philippines, would venture to ride on board a bulletproof Jeepney of SARAO’s or that of FRANCISCO. Probably, only under the state of hallucination, but that would be a wild guess. Therefore, those importers of Racehorses should be imposed customs duties and taxes similar to those imposed to importing luxury cars in order to discourage importation. The Local horseowners must patronize their own Local horsebreeding industry in the Philippines.
However, if it really cannot be avoided, it’s about time the Bureau of Customs must impose the customs duties to the importers of Foreign racehorses in the same way they impose the same duties and taxes on foreign luxury cars including smuggled racehorses. After all, these importers of foreign racehorses are using and paying US or Australian Dollars to the exporters out of the pockets of the Filipino people especially the public bettors of local horseracing.
Even if the horse is a candidate for the KALESA industry, for as long as it has four (4) feet, and can run, we must patronize it because we have to. Being a Filipino, we must live and die patronizing “TANGKILIKIN ANG SARILING ATIN the Filipino way”. Kung Hei Fat choi!!!
